Community Outreach – Paid Internship with Solar Nonprofit in Santa Maria neighborhoods
 
We are looking to find two Spanish speaking individuals to work as a team approximately 8-24 hours/ week, conducting community outreach in Santa Maria neighborhoods.
 
Our outreach team will mentor and expose you to all aspects of the GRID Alternatives mission. 
 
GRID Alternatives is a non-profit organization that provides energy efficiency and renewable energy services to low-income families. Our core program is the Solar Affordable Housing Program, where we train and lead community volunteers and job trainees from all walks of life to install solar electric systems with low-income homeowners. GRID Alternatives-Central Coast is offering a paid Outreach Internship for a minimum of 3 months to assist with community outreach, partnership building, client relations, and administrative tasks with the Central Coast team.
 
Activities for this internship will include, but are not limited to: 
1.Generate leads for prospective clients who can benefit from our program by canvassing select neighborhoods and attending community events
2. Identify and touch base with community partners
3. Interact with clients going through application and contract process.
4. Process and organize data acquired through outreach efforts.
5. Observe and learn how a successful nonprofit functions.
  
Minimum qualifications: 
1.3 month minimum commitment to work 8 hours minimum per week 
2.Capacity to establish positive relationships with youth, community members, and community partners
3.Comfort and experience interacting with, instructing and speaking with diverse communities of all ages
4.Self-starter and ability to work independently as well as in a team
5.Superior professional verbal and written communications skills
6.Strong skills and experience with Microsoft Office
7.Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and decision-making skills
8.Willingness to work some evenings/weekends
9.Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English.
 
Preferred skills and qualifications: 
1.Outreach and social marketing experience
2.Desire for a career in environmental education and outreach
3.Foundational knowledge of renewable energy 
4.Interest in and enthusiasm for renewable energy, community development, green jobs and/or helping families and communities in need 
5.Experience with data entry, marketing, GIS
 
This is an paid internship with GRID Alternatives.
 
Office Location 
Office is located in Atascadero. However, most of the work will be focused in Santa Maria. 
 
Travel and Work Schedule 
This position may require work on weekends as well as travel throughout the Central Coast. GRID Alternatives provides travel reimbursement when using personal vehicles for work. Travel time and expenses will be compensated by GRID Alternatives.
 
Compensation
$14.50/hr. Additional benefits can include a good reference, corporate and non-profit networking opportunities, authentic work experience, and the opportunity to work with professional staff. This internship position is crucial to the success of GRID Alternatives’ Central Coast outreach team’s strategy and to GRID Alternatives mission.
